A New Job Just a Tweet Away

This morning the Wall Street Journal reports that many companies are turning to Twitter to post jobs. Twitter offers users, including corporate recruiters the chance to make all sorts of announcements, including job postings. Each "tweet" is no more than 140 characters and the recruiters find this method simple and effective. Many introductions and eventual job offers have been accomplished using Twitter.

The candidates then have access to these corporate recruiters. It's the latest in online social networking, opening the corporate doors just a little bit wider for candidates. A candidate can sign up to "follow" a company's tweets or receive tweets through a 3rd party service.

Twitter is a particularly good avenue for companies looking for techno-savvy candidates. Technology companies feel particularly sensitive to the fact that if they're not using Twitter, they're falling behind.

Hiring executives remind everyone that what one says online, stays online. Nowadays, a person's online activities are used as part of the background check process, be it Facebook, Myspace, or Twitter.

Hi, Janice,

For those of us recruiting in Silicon Valley it appears that Twitter is going to be of little help unless you're recruiting for social media types. But it does indicate that the technology is moving forward. For us old-timers, tweeting for candidates may seem somewhat avant-garde but it will probably gain traction as a sourcing vehicle over time.

Thanks for the link.
